Young People’s Participation

Here at Gateshead Council we want Children and Young People:

• To have their voices heard
• To have their views taken seriously
• To have a say in how services are run
• To know that they have rights in line with Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) which states that they have the right to be heard and involved in decisions that affect them. Gateshead Council endorsed Article 12 in 2004
All of the young people involved in our groups are young volunteers, they are properly trained, supported and rewarded for their work. Being a young volunteer can look really good on CV’s and personal statements for college and University.

Of course, Covid-19 has had a massive impact on everyone, so our face to face work has all gone online, using Teams, Zoom and Facebook messenger we are continuing to work with young people though, we are excited to get back to seeing people in real life.
