Autism training for parents/carer
Training programmes aim to empower parents and carers to develop an understanding of autism and to gain knowledge of the supportive strategies that can be used with their child. Free training programmes for parents/carers of children and young people living in Gateshead with a diagnosis of autism:
‘Early Bird’ training is designed for parents/carers of pre-school children with a diagnosis of autism. For more information phone 0191 433 8734 or email christinabirkinshaw@gateshead.gov.uk
‘Cygnet’ training is for families of a child/young person with autism between the age of five and 18 years. Parents/carers can self-refer and a referral form can be downloaded below. Please note there is an extended waiting time for this programme and new referrals are not being accepted until further notice.
