Gateshead Equipment Services (GES) provides disability equipment and assessments for people who are ordinarily resident in Gateshead or who are registered with a Gateshead GP. Referrals for assessments are received into the service from Adult Social Care Direct, Community Based Services staff at Gateshead Council and through Healthcare professionals.
Referrals may be made by Health and Social Care professionals who hold a GES Personal Identification Number (PIN). Referrals can also be received from NHS organisations, out of the area, where residents of Gateshead have chosen these organisations as their preferred provider of treatment.
The aims of the service are to:
• Prevent unnecessary admission to hospital and to facilitate and support discharge to preferred place of residence/care
• Promote independence and self-care
• Support carers, treating and caring for people in a safe environment and protecting them from avoidable harm and ensuring that people have a positive experience of care
Gateshead Equipment Services recycles and redistributes around £2.6m worth of equipment every year. If you have equipment that is no longer required please contact us to arrange free collection.
