From May 4th 2023 the law is changing to ensure that everyone who votes in UK elections will have to show photographic ID. For more information on this, please click on these links:
Gateshead Council have a duty to provide support in polling stations for voters with disabilities. We will be providing the following equipment at polling stations in May:
- disabled access, including installing temporary ramps, where required
- a low-level polling booth is available. This is suitable for wheelchair users or, voters who need to sit while casting their vote
- a tactile voting device (braille template) to use with the ballot paper
- an online audio recording of the ballot paper details, for voters to listen to
- large print ballot papers (for reference only)
- a magnifying glass
- extra lighting in polling booths, where necessary
- pencil grips
- easy read guides
- extra seating, where possible, for voters who need to stop and rest
- staff badges, so electors know who the staff are if they have any questions
If there are any other reasonable adjustments we could consider, or if you have any questions, please contact Joanne Little (Senior Electoral Services Officer) at joannelittle@gateshead.gov.uk
